Molí de Sóller
A 19th-century watermill turned into a house without losing its condition as a machine.
Sóller, Vall d'Or
01 The brief
A partly ruined flour mill with the tower standing and the feed channel intact. The owners wanted a two-bedroom house in which the original machinery would remain legible from inside.

02 The intervention
The wheel and shaft were dry-restored and sit exposed behind a glass plane in the living room, lit from the wheel pit below. The domestic programme occupies a self-supporting laminated timber structure inserted inside the tower, bearing at only four points: remove it one day and the mill is as it was. The new roof is zinc — deliberately unlike the stone.
