Cas Vicari
An 18th-century possessió returned to use without erasing its scars.
Portals Vells, Calvià
01 The brief
The owners, based in Munich, bought a listed possessió with a failed roof and no certified electrical installation. They wanted a house liveable year-round for two, able to receive eight, that did not look renovated.

02 The intervention
The existing marès structure was consolidated with stone ribs cut from the same quarry bed, and the roof rebuilt using Arabic tiles salvaged on the estate. New partitions are lime-painted plasterboard, held back from the historic walls so the joint tells you what is old and what is not. The modern programme — kitchen, bathrooms and services — is concentrated in a fair-faced concrete volume set against the north facade.
